A breaking tool and a gradually dulling tool represent two different but equally costly failure modes in precision machining. Both affect spindle motor load in measurable, detectable ways and both can be caught before they cause damage to the workpiece or machine.

Load Controls' power sensors track spindle motor true power draw continuously. A breaking tool produces an abnormal spike in load; a dulling tool shows a gradual upward drift over time. Both conditions trigger configurable alarms or automatic shutdowns. Because our sensors measure true power rather than just current, they detect load changes that current-based monitoring misses. All sensors are non-invasive, install at the motor control panel, and are manufactured in the USA to ISO 9001:2015 standards.

Q: How does the sensor distinguish between a breaking tool and normal cutting load variation?

Tool breakage produces a sudden abnormal spike in power draw, while normal cutting variation stays within a consistent range. Configurable set points and time delays allow you to tune protection to your specific process.

Yes. A dulling tool causes a gradual upward trend in motor load over multiple cycles, our sensors track this trend, giving advance warning before surface finish or dimensional accuracy is affected.

Q: Do I need to modify my existing CNC controller?
