The UPC-MB Modbus-Enabled Universal Power Cell is an advanced machine tool and process sensor with variable sensitivity for changing processes or tools. Building on all the capabilities of the standard UPC, the UPC-MB adds full Modbus connectivity via RS-485 serial bus link, enabling real-time adjustment of HP full scale and response time remotely, without interrupting the process. With a full-scale range settable from under 5HP to 150HP and response time adjustable from 4ms to 8 seconds via Modbus input, the UPC-MB delivers unmatched flexibility for complex, multi-process monitoring environments. True power measurement up to 10x more sensitive than current sensors, self-contained with no CTs or PTs to install, and compatible with fixed frequency, variable frequency, single phase, and DC motors up to 600V.

FAQs

Q: What makes the UPC different from a standard current sensor?

Current sensors only measure amps, which can be misleading when power factor changes. The UPC measures true power in horsepower, giving a far more accurate and sensitive picture of actual motor load.

Q: Which motor types is the UPC compatible with?

The UPC works with 3-phase, single-phase, AC, DC, fixed frequency, and variable frequency motors, covering virtually every motor type found in industrial environments.

Q: How do I know which UPC model is right for my motor size?

The UPC family covers motors from under 1HP to 150HP. For larger motors, the PH-1000 is available. Our team can help match the right model to your specific motor and application.

Q: Can UPC data be integrated into my existing control system?

Yes. The UPC outputs standard 0–10V and 4–20mA analog signals. The UPC-MB variant adds Modbus connectivity for direct integration with SCADA, DCS, and IIoT platforms.

Q: Is the UPC suitable for safety-critical applications?

Yes. All UPC models are UL rated and SIL-2 capable, meeting the safety integrity requirements of chemical, pharmaceutical, and other demanding process environments.
