The PMP-25-CT combines the advanced protection and optimisation capabilities of the PMP-25 Pump Load Control with an integrated Current Transformer package, delivering a complete motor load monitoring solution for pumps up to 100 HP. By measuring true motor power rather than relying solely on current, the PMP-25-CT provides faster, more accurate detection of dry running, loss of prime, dead-heading, cavitation, and blockages, allowing corrective action before costly equipment damage occurs. Supplied with a Range Finder Toroid and Current Transformer, the unit safely monitors high motor currents while providing precise load measurement, two configurable trip set points (high and low), a built-in digital load display, and a 4-20 mA analog output for seamless integration with plant control and SCADA systems. Designed for centrifugal, mag-drive, sealed, and positive displacement pumps, the PMP-25-CT is ideally suited for demanding applications across chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage production, and water treatment industries.

Detects Loss of Load

  • Dry Running - detects the instant a pump loses its liquid, triggering shutdown before seal or impeller damage occurs
  • No Prime - catches loss of prime conditions before the pump runs dry
  • Cavitation - identifies unstable flow conditions through characteristic power fluctuations

Detects Overloads

  • Jammed Impeller - power spike signals a blockage or jam, triggering protection before mechanical damage escalates
  • Bad Bearings - gradual rise in motor load indicates developing bearing wear, enabling planned maintenance before failure

FAQs

Q: What makes the PMP-25 different from a standard current-based pump protection relay?

The PMP-25 measures true power in kilowatts rather than just current in amps. Because true power directly reflects the actual mechanical work the pump is performing, it detects fault conditions far earlier and more accurately than current-based protection, catching conditions like dry running, cavitation, and impeller damage that current monitoring routinely misses.

Q: What types of pumps is the PMP-25 compatible with?

The PMP-25 is compatible with all electrically driven pump types including centrifugal, positive displacement, and submersible pumps across single-phase and three-phase motor configurations. It installs at the motor control panel with no contact with the pumped fluid, making it suitable for all fluid types including corrosive, hazardous, and food-grade applications.

Q: Can the PMP-25 be used on pumps driven by variable frequency drives?

Yes. Load Controls offers VFD-compatible models that accurately measure true power draw even as motor speed varies, ensuring reliable pump protection across the full speed range of your VFD-driven pump.

Q: How does the PMP-25 detect cavitation?

Cavitation creates unstable, fluctuating flow conditions inside the pump that cause characteristic variations in motor power draw. The PMP-25 detects these power fluctuations in real time, alerting operators to cavitation conditions before they cause impeller erosion or seal damage.

Q: What output signals does the PMP-25 provide for integration with existing control systems?

The PMP-25 provides standard analog outputs including 0–10V and 4–20mA, along with relay outputs for direct alarm and shutdown functions, enabling straightforward integration with existing PLCs, SCADA systems, and motor control panels without additional signal conditioning.
